Took a quick driving trip around Iceland, mainly around Reykjavik and the South Coast. The scenery was surreal and I hope to get back sometime and drive the whole ring around the coast.
First day off the plane called for a soak in the Blue Lagoon. It’s a little touristy and expensive, but I’d still recommend it.
From there we made it too Reykjavik for Dinner and checking into our room.
I’ll need to update the location of our dinner , but it was a quaint little stop with good food. I happened to get fermented shark and Brennivin the first meal!
The next few days involved traveling around the Golden Circle. Waterfalls and Geysers.
Outside of Gullfoss waterfall we could see the faintest glacier. We started down an F-road( Kinda off roadish) but I chickened out after the second mud hole. The scenery and lack of any sounds was amazing.
Some geyser site we drove by.
The Secret Lagoon was a nice break from the road trip. Thermally heated with nice facilities onsite. I had a hotdog and no beer since I was driving.
I had my first genuine pizza at Olverks since going off keto . It was delirious.
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall gives you the opportunity to walk behind it.
Skógafoss waterfall is the largest in Iceland.
Driving down the road we caught glimpse of a glacier. It just so happened that the road got us to a short hike to the base of Sólheimajökull .
We braved through dense fog and rain to make it Vik, the southern most town in Iceland.
I visited my 2nd brewpub in Iceland, Smiðjan Brugghús. Good beer, burgers, and a pleasant atmosphere. Beer wasn’t legalized in Iceland until 1989.
The last stop before heading back to Reykjavik was Thingvellir National Park. A lot of history here.
On my way back home I got to see the southern coast of Greenland.
